December’s Art Exhibit presents artwork by Skip Gosnell, opening November 27th through December.

December’s Art Exhibit “Something for Everyone”, presents the artwork of Skip Gosnell, opening November 27th through December.

An exhibition of original acrylic paintings and mixed media by local artist Skip Gosnell will be on display from November 27 through December 2018 at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue, Swarthmore. The public is invited to the artist’s opening reception on Friday November 30th, from 6 to 8 pm.  Both the exhibit and the opening are free, kid friendly and open to the public.

The exhibit presents paintings and drawings by Mr. Gosnell, the subject matter primarily in landscape and abstract using acrylics on canvas. His work captures the contrast of bright and shadow, using a visual language of shape, form and color with a degree of freedom from real world visual references. “I love experimenting with colors and brush strokes that express an emotion or mood of a particular scene or object; quite often the end result is unexpected, filled with interesting forms and textures”. Using varying tools along with traditional brushes, including tongue depressors, plastic wrap, chop sticks, to name a few, Mr. Gosnell creates layered works with an illusion of depth, pops of color, and contrasting shapes. “I finally got it through my head to just let go and enjoy the creative process.”

Mr. Gosnell sold his first painting at his high school art show, then continued his art education at the University of Delaware with a BS in Visual Communications. With a background in graphic design and photography, he continues developing his painting style through experimenting with multiple techniques and attending artist workshops.

Exhibit hours are Monday to Thursday 9 am to 8 pm, Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday 10 am to 3 pm, Sunday 1 to 5 pm.

The exhibit is sponsored by Swarthmore Friends of the Arts. For information about Swarthmore Friends of the Arts, visit www.swarthmorearts.org or contact Exhibit Chair Martha Perkins, martha.perkins@gmail.com.
