March Art Exhibit “Mixing It Up” from The Community Arts Center Mixed Media Studio – March 1-27, 2018

The Community Arts Center Mixed Media Studio presents new work in this show “Mixing It Up”.  The Mixed Media Studio is a group of local artists who meet on Tuesday nights at the Community Arts Center in Wallingford, to be inspired by each other, to create art in a collegial atmosphere, and occasionally to indulge together in some wine, chocolate or pizza from Gaetano’s.  Members of the group exhibiting in this show are Nancy Barch, Wendy Cotton, Gail Herring, Patricia Kerr, Michele Southworth, Molly Wing-Berman, and Kurt Winkelman.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Friday March 2 from 6-8 pm, at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue, Swarthmore. The exhibit and the reception are free and open to the public.

Mixed media lends itself to a wide variety of materials, styles and subject matter, and the group takes enjoyment and inspiration from the diversity of work generated by its artists. The artists themselves come to mixed media from a variety of other art disciplines, including ceramics, watercolor and acrylic painting, pastel drawing, graphic design, and even botanical illustration. Nancy Barch, who teaches workshops locally and exhibits throughout the Philadelphia area, describes the pleasures of the medium in this way: “Mixed media is very exciting for any artist, as the plans you make constantly go awry.  That means there is always a Plan B rattling around in your head. It makes for a very creative process.”

Exhibit hours are Monday to Thursday 9 am to 8 pm, Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday 10 am to 3 pm, Sunday 1 to 5 pm.

The exhibit is sponsored by Swarthmore Friends of the Arts.  For information about Swarthmore Friends of the Arts, visit www.swarthmorearts.org or www.facebook.com/Swarthmore-Friends-of-The-Arts-448756008550524, or contact Skip Gosnell, Publicity Chair at 484-343-2728,  chilichaz13@gmail.com
