An exhibition of original paintings by local artist Lora Lavin will be on display from February 28th through March 31st, 2019, at Swarthmore Borough Hall, 121 Park Avenue, Swarthmore. The public is invited to the artist’s opening reception on Friday March 1st, from 5 to 7 pm. Both the exhibit and the opening are free, kid friendly and open to the public.
The exhibit presents artwork by Ms. Lavin, the subjects include landscape, still life, and figure in both oils and acrylics. “I began painting in 1964 as a hobby. It is now a serious avocation. For me the process is as important as the product. I love to work on location outdoors and always prefer to work directly from the subject.”
Ms. Lavin’s work is represented in several collections locally, nationally and abroad and has been selected for exhibition in numerous juried shows. Awards include the prestigious Rochelle Boonshaft Portrait Prize awarded in the Woodmere Art Museum’s 1992 Annual Juried Exhibition and a prize for self-portraiture from an exhibit at Widener University organized by Tri State Artists Equity. One of her paintings was featured on the cover of the 2013 edition of Philadelphia Poets.
Since moving to the Philadelphia area 37 years ago Ms. Lavin has been very active with the Community Arts Center in Wallingford; serving on the Board of Directors for six years and participating in weekly workshops for over 30 years. “The workshops were an opportunity to work with and share ideas with other artists”. She was also the founding President of Swarthmore Friends of the Arts.
All proceeds from the sale of her work are donated to charity.
Exhibit hours are Monday to Thursday 9 am to 8 pm, Friday 10 am to 7 pm, Saturday 10 am to 3 pm, Sunday 1 to 5 pm.
The exhibit is sponsored by Swarthmore Friends of the Arts. For information about Swarthmore Friends of the Arts, visit www.swarthmorearts.org or contact Exhibit Chair Martha Perkins, firstname.lastname@example.org.
